Domino's not-so-gluten-free, pizza

So the internet has gone crazy on the issue of dominos GF pizza and I've decided to voice my opinion as well.

I HAVE to chime in... right?!

In case you haven't heard by now (you have to have been hiding under a rock), Dominos has announced a new gluten free pizza crust. Well, gluten free meaning, the initial ingredients of the crust are free of gluten. However, by the time it gets to your house, it is anything but free of gluten. There is NO separate kitchen area (meaning there is flour flying around everywhere), no separate utensils, counter spaces, ovens, ingredients... nothing. So yes, when they make a regular cheese pizza and throw too much cheese on it and toss some cheese back in the container, that cheese is contaminated with gluten that will soon be used on your "gluten free" pizza. The company has stated that the pizza is not intended for celiacs... so basically it is meant for those on the new "fad' Gf diet- wonderful.

Their main point behind the entire thing is that the pizza is good for those who are "mildy gluten-sensitive." Oh really? Then why are you calling this pizza "Gluten Free" and how exactly is that still OK for those who are gluten-sensitive?

So what's your opinion on the matter? Will you be ordering domino's "gf" pizza?

Company Replies Page

#DearReader

Check out my newest page to the Right --> titled "Company Replies"

This page will have all email correspondences I have with various companies regarding the status of their gluten free products. The most exciting new one I found out about is a local restaurant called Eegees. I learned that their french fries are gf (they don't fry anything else so there is no Cross-contamination as far as I am aware) and their eegees drinks, which are like slushys - but SO much better - are gf!

I should also share that our local Chik-Fil-A now serves grilled chicken nuggets (on the kids menu) that are gf and the french fries here have their own fryer so they are also gf! You can also still get the chicken breast filet without a bun, wrapped in lettuce, which is also GF.

*Check with your local Chik-Fil-A before confirming that the fries are gluten free (without cross-contamination) and they have a separate fryer.*

Friends are FABULOUS

#DearReader

I need to take a minute and write a post about how AWESOME my friends are. When it comes to food, at least in my life, everyone around me knows that I am gluten free. Now I will admit there are MANY times when I get super frustrated with it, but my friends are so wonderful and there to support me! It always makes me smile when I get a text or a picture of something that is gluten free and my friends think of me. Most of the time they are of products I don't know about or they are being sold somewhere that I never knew! Just the other day I had a study date with a new friend who texted me saying, "I got a flyer in the mail that said this place has a gluten free menu." As it turns out it was Eclectic Cafe and I otherwise would have never known that they have a huge gluten free menu! I plan on eating here on a regular basis now. How great to have a new restaurant to satisfy my cravings.

Here are just a few of the awesome texts I've gotten from several friends... Thank you all for being so supportive! I know its super annoying to eat with me, but you are fantastic people for still trying. I love you all so much!!

I received this text from a friend that Jelly Bellies are GF. At least the easter flavors are!

One of my friends found GF "cookies and stuff at the movie theater" !!! AWESOME. Even better I found out it's at the CHEAP THEATER (Grant/Swan) Which is a DOUBLE SCORE because I LOVE the cheap theater and refuse to see movies at the regular theater. ($3 vs. $10... I mean c'mon it's an obvious choice).

So my BFF and I were trying to find somewhere to have lunch the next day. I eat at chipotle every week, sometimes multiple times a week. I'm getting to that point where I just can't hardly eat there anymore. I'm also getting sick of every other restaurant in my neighborhood radius in Tucson so I was whining a lot last week about where to eat food. I know I should cook at home more, but my schedule is sometimes just SO busy I really don't have time and end up eating out a TON. Anyways... she's pretttty awesome :D

My bosses daughter found GF muffins at AJ's for me!

Even if your friends aren't gluten free, they can still be supportive and important in helping you succeed in your gluten free journey. None of my friends are gluten free, and most had no idea what "gluten" was before I was diagnosed... Now most of them can give you a relatively complete list of foods with and without gluten. My best friends can also tell you almost every restaurant in Tucson with GF menus :) Friends and family can be your best advocate. It is awesome what education can do... Start with your own friends and family. Soon the whole world will understand how to best cater to our GF needs.
